In a recent update, the widely-used messaging platform, WhatsApp, has introduced a new feature that allows users to edit their sent text messages. However, it’s important to note that this editing option is available only within 15 minutes of sending the message.
The addition of this feature is aimed at providing users with greater control over their conversations. Previously, users could only delete messages for everyone if they had mistakenly sent something. With the new edit feature, users can now rectify typos, provide more context to their messages, and even address any misinformation.
To make edits, users simply need to long-press the sent message and select the “Edit” option that appears after the long-press action.
An edited message will be labeled with the word “edited,” similar to a feature already available on Skype. While competitors like Telegram and Signal have long provided the edit option, it was a much-awaited addition to WhatsApp.
Interestingly, Facebook, WhatsApp’s sister company, has already offered the edit feature for a considerable period.
One distinction to note is that while WhatsApp does not display the edit history for messages, Facebook allows users to view the edit history of their posts.
The edit feature will be gradually rolled out globally in the coming days, offering users the convenience of making necessary changes to their sent messages.
