Zoho and MOMO Pencils Collaborate to Address Literacy Gap and Promote Reforestation

Zoho, a technology company, has recently announced its collaboration with MOMO Pencils, an eco-friendly stationery manufacturer in Nairobi, for the “Hope for Literacy” program. This initiative aims to tackle inter-generational poverty in Kenya by providing access to quality education for children in underserved communities. Zoho’s partnership with MOMO Pencils will also focus on raising awareness in schools about the significance of environmental sustainability and fostering eco-conscious community development. The “Hope for Literacy” program by MOMO Pencils aligns with Zoho’s commitment to serving the local community, uplifting the underserved, and promoting responsible and sustainable development.

Veerakumar Natarajan, Country Head of Zoho Kenya, expressed the company’s dedication to making a positive impact on society and the environment. Zoho’s growth approach, known as Transnational Localism, involves collaborating with local communities by opening local offices, hiring local talent, conducting upskilling initiatives, and empowering regional businesses with technology. This collaboration with MOMO Pencils reflects Zoho’s commitment to supporting grassroots progress and creating a lasting positive impact on Kenyan society.

The “Hope for Literacy” program in Kenya aims to address the literacy gap by supporting the education of one million school-going children from marginalized families. Mahamud Omari, CEO of MOMO Pencils, expressed delight in having Zoho as a partner in this transformative journey for Kenyan families, schools, and communities. As part of this alliance, Zoho recently hosted approximately 25 students from Creative Minds, a primary school in Athi River, at its Nairobi office during the MoU signing on February 14. The students were introduced to the future of work and various career opportunities in STEM fields.

In addition to promoting education and career awareness, Zoho and MOMO Pencils will jointly donate 25,000 wood-free pencils to 10 schools in Kenya and plant 1,000 tree saplings in these schools throughout the year. This collaborative effort aims to drive environmental awareness among students and contribute to sustainable practices. Zoho will also provide life skills mentorship support to students during these school visits, starting with Creative Minds school on February 16, 2024. This holistic approach by Zoho and MOMO Pencils reflects their commitment to making a positive impact on education, the environment, and the overall well-being of communities in Kenya.
