Fostering Innovation: OPPO’s Strategic Partnerships with Startups to Drive Technological Advancements

In the dynamic landscape of innovation, where 150 million startups globally, with an additional 50 million launching annually, are reshaping industries, OPPO recognizes the challenges these startups face. Approximately 1 in 5 startups face failure within the first year due to various difficulties, including financial struggles and poor product-market fit. Acknowledging this, OPPO actively collaborates with startups, providing essential support to help them overcome obstacles and bring their innovative ideas to fruition.

Yan Ren, Director of Open Innovation at OPPO, emphasizes the company’s understanding of the diverse needs of startups. OPPO offers comprehensive support, including funding, technology, and marketing, aiming to foster their growth and extend the benefits of technology to a broader audience. This collaborative approach has already seen successful partnerships with startups such as AlpsenTek, HUAYI, and CloudSteth, contributing practical innovations to real-life scenarios.

To go beyond mere financial investment, OPPO actively engages with startups in various sectors. AlpsenTek, specializing in machine vision, utilized OPPO’s financial and technical support to integrate its cutting-edge hybrid vision sensor ALPIX-Eiger® with AI algorithm capabilities. This collaboration resulted in the development of AI Motion algorithms that enhance image clarity, demonstrating the potential for widespread application in smartphones. Another startup, DeepMirror, focused on XR, joined OPPO’s innovation networks and showcased its latest AR game at the global stage, MWC24, adding a layer of interactive fun through its cloud-based service, MirrorVerse.

Co-creation is identified as a key strategy for cultivating new technologies, providing both startups and established companies with opportunities to create synergies. OPPO exemplifies this through its R&D partnership with HUAYI Medical Technologies, a high-tech startup specializing in contactless health monitoring. The collaboration aims to refine health monitoring devices using innovative technology like “WonTrackR,” combining millimeter wave technology, radar processing, and AI modeling. Similarly, CloudSteth’s intelligent auscultation system, designed to aid in early diagnosis for children with respiratory conditions, showcases the impactful outcomes of co-creating disruptive solutions in healthcare.

Empowering startups is not a one-off initiative for OPPO; it’s a continuous mission. Initiatives like the OPPO Inspiration Challenge provide ongoing support and global recognition opportunities for startups. Tangtangquan, a participant in the challenge, collaborated with OPPO to implement its digital therapeutic solution on the OPPO Watch 3 and 4. This collaboration has assisted over 20,000 users in monitoring blood glucose levels, offering a convenient health management solution. Additionally, OPPO invited Bluepha Co., Ltd to showcase its sustainable alternative to plastic, Bluepha™ PHA, during COP28, demonstrating the commitment to support startups with environmentally friendly innovations.

As the AI revolution reshapes possibilities across industries, startups represent a beacon of hope for pioneering advancements. OPPO remains dedicated to collaborating with and supporting the next generation of startups, contributing to innovation and delivering transformative experiences for users worldwide.
