Blocking WhatsApp Spam Messages Possible Without Opening the App

In recent months, WhatsApp has been focusing on improving user privacy and security. The latest enhancement comes in the form of a feature that allows users to block spam messages from unknown contacts without opening them.

Traditionally, when receiving a WhatsApp message from an unfamiliar contact, users had to open the message to access options like blocking the sender if the content was deemed spam. With the new update, if a spam message appears on the lock screen, users can long-press the notification to reveal a set of options, including the ability to block the sender without opening the message.

Moreover, users can now report a contact directly from the notification. By tapping the checkbox for “Report contact” and selecting “Block” in the subsequent pop-up window, users can take action against potential spammers without engaging with the content.

This update eliminates the need for users to interact with spam messages directly, providing a more convenient way to block and report unwanted contacts. Additionally, it helps prevent individuals from falling for persuasive language often found in spam messages.

Last year, Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, hinted at introducing overlay warning screens for spam messages. These screens were intended to prominently appear above a user’s chat window when they received spam. While this feature was tested with beta users, it has not been widely rolled out and may have been put on hold.

WhatsApp continues to introduce various features, such as a quick file-sharing option for users in close proximity.
