Reports suggest that certain Apple Vision Pro units have experienced a comparable hairline crack issue on their front glass

Imagine this scenario: after a day of enjoying mixed reality with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, you carefully pack it away with the battery pack connected and the soft front cover attached. However, when you wake up the next day to start work with the $3,500 headset, you notice a problem – a hairline crack has formed on the front cover glass.

Several users have reported encountering this issue, according to Reddit posts and AppleInsider, though the exact number of affected units remains unclear. Even Engadget’s review unit experienced the problem.

The cause of the cracks is yet unknown, but the similar appearance and the seemingly small number of impacted units suggest a potential manufacturing flaw. Engadget has reached out to Apple for comment.

If Apple doesn’t officially recognize the issue as a manufacturing defect, users might not get coverage for the crack under the device’s warranty. Some affected users have reported being on the hook for a $300 repair cost if they have AppleCare coverage. Without coverage, the repair cost is a steep $800.

As noted by MacRumors, Apple often introduces special repair programs for recognized hardware issues, but this usually happens if there are enough reports to prompt a thorough investigation by the company. This situation highlights the cautionary advice to be wary of purchasing first-generation Apple products.

This isn’t the first time an Apple device faced durability issues in its initial release. Users of the first iPod nano discovered it scratched easily, leading to a lawsuit and a $22.5 million settlement from Apple.
