Bolt introduces a Ksh.2.9 million accelerator initiative for Kenyan drivers

Today, ride-hailing platform Bolt unveiled its Accelerator Program tailored for drivers and riders across Kenya. The initiative aims to foster entrepreneurial endeavors within the Bolt community, offering a seed fund of €20,000 (approximately Kshs 2.92 million) to support innovative business proposals aligned with sustainable transport.

Participants in the program will have the opportunity to pitch their business concepts, which should align with Bolt’s vision of creating sustainable African cities prioritizing well-being, sustainability, and accessible mobility. The initiative will be conducted in collaboration with The Nest Innovation Park, leveraging their network of mentors to guide eligible participants in refining their business plans.

Caroline Wanjihia, Bolt’s Regional Director of Rides for Africa, emphasized the potential of ride-hailing and food delivery to empower drivers and couriers to pursue broader career opportunities while earning flexibly. She expressed optimism that the Accelerator Program will drive tangible impact within local communities and extend support to the families of drivers and couriers.

The Bolt Accelerator Program presents a platform for Kenyan innovators to leverage their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in developing sustainable mobility solutions. With a focus on addressing urban challenges and contributing to economic growth, the program aims to equip 120 shortlisted participants with essential business development skills through tailored training sessions.

The top 20 participants will undergo further training sessions led by seasoned entrepreneurs and receive in-person mentoring, enhancing their capacity for successful business execution. Following the Business Pitch Day scheduled for June, the top 10 business ideas will be selected and awarded seed funding of €2000 (over Kshs 290,000) each, accompanied by ongoing mentoring support.

Originally launched in Nigeria in September 2023, the Bolt Accelerator Program has expanded to Kenya and Ghana, reflecting its success and scalability across different markets. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit their innovative ideas through the Bolt Accelerator Program portal for consideration.
